Car Wreck

I
was in the back seat, asleep, on my way back from a trip to see the
Atlanta Braves. We Live in Raleigh, North Carolina and had left
Atlanta right after the game had ended because my brother, sister and
I had a commercial audition in the morning. We had already completed
most of the drive. It was still dark outside but it was getting close
to morning and we were less than 5 minutes from our house. Crash! The
next thing I know our car is shaking and jolting into a ditch. It
felt like a ride on a space mountain. The next thing I know my mom is
yelling at my half awake twelve year old self to get out of the car
because it was on fire.  I frantically looked for a way out. The
only door which was working was my moms door. We all quickly piled
out to the side of the road. I was confused as all get out. My
parents were trying to wave down a car for help, because they left
their phones in the car. My brother wanted to just walk home. Me not
realizing how close home was, thought he was crazy. My mom also
thought he was crazy but knew he was in shock. I was concerned with
my baseball cards and souvenirs and how they were gonna get burned to
a crisp. I also sustained an injury from my seat belt and wondered
if it was life threatening. Anyways it took my parents an hour to
wave down a car for help and they called 911. When the ambulances
came, they had to be transported in different ones. I got to ride in
the front seat because the paramedics figured out pretty quickly I
had no life treating injuries. I tried to convince the driver to take
us to UNC instead of Duke. I was a UNC fan and a UNC fan just can not
be seen at Duke. It didn’t work. We ended up at Duke. Later I found
out the whole story of the crash. A lady fell asleep and crossed the
centerline. She was driving while on pain medication. My dad was able
to angle the car, to avoid a head-on collision. But It still was an
over one hundred mile an hour crash. My dad, who the state trooper
said should have died, walked away with only a minor thumb burn from
the air bag. My mom suffered the worst injury. With her whole belly
bruised and swollen, it looked like I was going to have another
sibling. As it turns out the car wasn’t on fire. When airbags
deploy, they produce a cloudy substance which gives the illusion of
smoke. When the case was brought to court, we found the lady to have
influence and was able to have the report to indicate, she swerved to
avoid the wind. This was not her first wreck or offense.
