Responsible Driving Save Lives
“Driver’s
ED ”
Imagine
a person driving to the local grocery store to pick up a couple of
items for an elderly family member. On their way to the grocery
store, another person, driving on the wrong side of the road, slams
into the person going to the grocery store causing serious injuries
to both parties. Another example, would be instead of the person
being on the wrong side of the road, the person was simply too drunk
to drive a motorize vehicle and slams into the same person going to
the grocery store. These situations are more common than most people
think. According to the U.S Department of Transportation Federal
Highway Administration, “between 300 to 400 people die each year
from wrong-way driving”. Also, according to the organization,
Fathers Against Drunk Driving,
“nearly 50% of all accidents are caused by drunk driving”. These
accidents can be avoided if student drivers were aware of the traffic
laws in the area which is the reason drivers ed is
important.
Driving
is beneficial for many reasons; driving allows quick transportation
from one area to another; however, driving can be dangerous without
the right precautions. To reduce the number of death related
accidents, student drivers should have the option to take more
classes related to traffic safety. Additionally, when a person moves
to another state or country, they should be able to receive a traffic
safety pamphlet that explains the specific traffic laws in the area.
Also, the drivers should be required to take a workshop to get
familiar with the different roads in the area of the traffic laws.
One example of the variation in traffic laws in different areas is in
the U.S Virgin Islands. Even though the rest of United States drives
on the right side of the road, in the Virgin Islands, the law is to
drive on the left side of the road. Being a tourist destination,
this law causes confusion for many visitors. Overall, driving can
become dangerous if a person is unfamiliar with the local traffic
laws.
Every
driver is responsible for both themselves and others on the road. A
person can get arrested for killing a person in a traffic accident.
Additionally, if a person obtains serious injuries from a traffic
accident, then that individual can be drowned in expensive medical
bills for the rest of his/her lives. To prevent these issues, as a
driver, I can be aware of myself and my surrounding, encourage others
to be defensive drivers, and make judgement choices that would not
harm myself and others. By becoming a responsible driver, I will be
able to contribute to my society and prevent future accidents.
Everyday
a person dies or become seriously injured by a traffic accident.
Each driver should be responsible for their own actions and commit to
prevent harm on the road. Each area has different traffic laws that
may confuse visitors, so, different resources should be provided to
allow visitors to be familiar with local roads. With my driving
experience, I have seen many people driving on the wrong side of the
road which increases the chance of an accident. Each driver should
become determine to promote traffic safety instead of harming other
drivers and pedestrians. I am really pleased with the fact that I
was able to attend drivers ed classes. The knowledge I
received from these classes taught me the importance of safety as a
responsible driver.
