The Unforgettable Truth

The
Unforgettable Truth

With
young adults being able to drive a car as early as age 15 ½, driver
education is as imperative as ever, possibly more so. Deaths as
a result of driving occur because of either a lack of
knowledge or carelessness, and if every driver receives proper
education, the amount of deaths from driving would be reduced
exponentially. Knowing the potential hazards before going on the
road and how to prevent them is undoubtedly a crucial aspect of
driving, and those who would say otherwise are endangering the lives
of themselves and their passengers. There are measures in terms
of drivers ed, such as the written test for the learner’s
permit, but many who even pass that test ignore the possible
dangers of the road.

To
reduce the number of deaths related to driving, there could be
stricter penalties for breaking the law while driving in order to
dissuade people from engaging in dangerous acts. People fail to
realize when they ignore the laws of the road that their lives are
not the only ones they are endangering.  Another step to
reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to further
educate people of the ramifications of driving unsafe.
Death is a real possibility for people who engage in unsafe
driving, and sometimes even in the case of safe driving because of
another driver’s carelessness.

No,
I have never been in a serious car accident, although I have been in
a few minor ones. This is thanks to the safe driving that my family
members practice and taught me as well. However, I have seen my
friends driving irresponsibly, not caring about their
surroundings and instead looking at their phones. This could endanger
both the driver and whoever they are driving, so it is not
acceptable, and the distractions of cellular devices is something
that my generation engages heavily in. It appears they
don’t realize the repercussions of not paying attention
on the road, which is unacceptable, because other drivers on the
road could be compromised.

For
me to be a better and safer driver, I can make sure to always be
alert when I am driving, and only drive at times when I am completely
awake. I often drive in the mornings to school, and many times I just
woke up a few minutes before driving, so something I can do to
become a safer driver is wake up a good amount of time before I start
driving. In addition, I can alert people who are driving me if they
are getting distracted on the road in order to keep them from getting
careless, as that is what causes many accidents on the road.

Overall,
the imperativeness of safe driving cannot be overstressed, whether it
is adults, teens, or even yourself, because even the slightest moment
of carelessness can cost a life. Unfortunately, the
truth is many drivers choose to ignore the rules of the road for
their own convenience and endanger the lives of those around them.
