The Valuable Survival Kit Known As Drivers Ed
The
Valuable Survival Kit Known As Drivers Ed
Throughout my
whole high school life so far, if I had to pick the most valuable
thing I learned in school, it would be hands down, driver’s
education. It taught me critical knowledge on how to maneuver through
the bustling streets of Chicago. It is not easy driving in this city,
making it all the more important to know the rules. Knowing how to
get around on the road is critical for keeping you alive and others
alive. If you don’t know the rules, you are bound to mess up at
some point on the road, which could be very catastrophic.
There will always
be deaths on the road no matter what precautions we take. We are all
human and are bound to make mistakes, some of which result in very
unfortunate consequences. However, one important step to making the
roads safer is to educate people on the importance of complying with
the rules of the road. A study shows that among 150,000 teen drivers
found that drivers ed has helped to reduce crashes, traffic
violations, and deaths on the road. This trend shows that driver’s
education does resolve the issue, so it should continue to be taught
and reminded to driver’s of all ages.
My experience out
on the road has been quite safe throughout all my life with one
exception. I notice that whenever one of my family members is in a
heated state of emotion and he is behind the wheel, he tends to let
that emotion dictate how he drives. Thankfully, it has never resulted
in a serious accident, but it was irresponsible nonetheless. When I
was a new driver as well, being inexperienced, even with all of the
head-knowledge in the classroom, still resulted in me making some
dumb mistakes on the road. I do think experience is just as important
as classroom knowledge as from my experience.
There are many
simple steps you can take to be a safer driver. My mom always tells
me to drive defensively. It has served her very well. Don’t text
and drive. You’re risking your life out on the road, so give it
your full attention. If you ever feel like your emotional state at
any point on the road start to dictate your driving, pull-over, and
calm down. Being angry will lead you to think irrationally and make
poor decisions on the road. Applying these simple steps can help
anyone to be a safer driver and a life saver.
