Importance of Drivers ED

What
is the importance of drivers ed in reducing the number deaths
as a result of driving?

The
Nebraska Prevention Center for Alcohol and Drug Abuse at UN did a
study on this topic with 151,800 teen drivers. Fifty-three percent
had taken a drivers-ed course while the rest hadn’t. The study
found that 12.9 percent of teen drivers who hadn’t taken a course
were involved in crashes but that number goes down to 11.1 percent
for teen drivers who did take a course.

This
is because drivers ed teaches people what distracted driving
really is and why they need to not do it. Drivers ed can help
teenagers and first-time drivers become aware of the impact that the
decisions they make while driving will have.

There
was also evidence from this study that showed that taking a drivers
ed course makes people safer drivers as well. It showed that 18.3
percent of teen drivers who had not taken a course received a ticket
while only 10.4 percent of teen drivers who had taken the course got
a ticket. This could be due to how drivers ed courses teach them all
about how to properly drive a car which will help them prevent an
accident from occurring. Drivers ed can prepare people for the
different problems that might occur while they are driving which will
help them be prepared to prevent it, and to react properly. Without
drivers ed, these people may never think of what kinds of
things could happen while driving.

A
study was done with 150,000 teen drivers over an eight-year period
that found that drivers who did not complete drivers ed are
twenty-four percent more likely to be involved in a fatal accident.
This is because drivers ed makes people understand how
dangerous driving can cause the end of a life. It makes them
understand how that will affect them for the rest of their life and
how it will affect everyone else involved or related to the
situation.

What
steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving?

Steps
can be taken by every individual to make sure they do not drive when
they are unfit to drive which could be due to drinking alcohol,
taking medications, or being too tired. People can also make sure
they are not driving while distracted which could mean being on their
phone or doing anything except focusing on driving. Drivers can also
be aware of other drivers on the road or in parking lots to make sure
there is not a crash. It is important that people keep talking about
all these issues and educating each other about the effects of not
driving safely. Students should be told about these problems from
when they are in elementary school so they can start getting the
message into their heads even though they will not be driving yet.
Making sure everyone who gets a permit has taken a drivers-ed course
in a classroom will also help because having the class in a room with
other people is better than doing it online.

Have
you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen
your friends or family members driving irresponsibly?

I
have never been in a car accident and I have only seen my family and
friends driving very carefully. However, I have seen other people
driving dangerously on the road. For example, I have seen people
driving while on their phones, running red lights, and pulling in
front of other people when it is not safe to do so.

What
steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help
others become safer on the road?

One
step I can take to become a safer, better driver is to focus on
driving and nothing else while I am driving so I am ready for
anything that may happen. Other steps are to always drive at the
speed limit and to drive even more carefully in certain weather
conditions. Another step I will take to be a safe driver is to use
the right signals on the car. To help others become safer on the
road, I will tell people to not drive while being distracted if I
ever see them doing so and I will make sure people I know are not
about to go drive while they are not in a state to do so. I will also
pay attention to how these issues are being talked about and make
sure they are being talked about in a way that sends the message of
how important safe driving is.
