The Most Dangerous Game

The Most Dangerous Game

Every
year, millions of people are injured or die in car accidents in just
the United States. This problem must be addressed swiftly and
decisively because of the damage these accidents do. Even the simple
actions involved in pulling out a phone can be dangerous. A driving
education class would help many people see that any form of reckless
driving is not worth the risk. One of the best ways I can think of to
help fix this problem is to suggest studying more drivers ed
material even after getting a license.

A
drivers ed class is an important step in getting a drivers
license; however, it should be more than just a step, but a part of
the driver. Drivers ed is usually short, and the main emphasis
seems to be on warning people what the dangers of driving are, rather
than preparing them to avoid these dangers in everyday life. Driving
can be a fatal endeavor, meaning that should approach the task with
the respect it deserves. In 2019, for example, nearly forty thousand
people died in car related incidents in the United States.

One
of the best ways to encourage people to understand the importance of
safe driving is to create an incentive for people to research the
statistics of driving accidents. Many people, especially teens have
problems with confidence on the road, leading to many crashes causing
severe injury or death. If more people truly understood the
statistics about the number of crashes involving texting for example,
less people would fall prey to the temptation to look at their phone
on the road knowing the dangers. It would also help if people spent a
little bit more time periodically reviewing drivers ed
materials or taking an online practice drivers test.

I
do have some experience with drivers using their phones on the road,
but not much. My mom, however, pulls out her phone while driving
frequently. Sometimes I’m in charge of holding the phone but other
times my mom simply holds the phone up to her face, gives a voice
command, and puts the phone down. I have never really felt in danger
with her holding the phone but I did feel uncomfortable knowing how
distracting the action can be. Drivers should either look for another
person to hold the phone, or better yet simply ignore the phone while
driving.

It is important for people to
continue learning how to drive even after drivers ed. If more
people were continually instructed as to the evolving dangers
associated with driving, they would be less likely to make basic
mistakes like texting and driving reducing the overall traffic death
and injury counts. I believe that a continuing education program for
drivers ed could potentially help achieve greater safety.
