Drive
Smart

Like
most aspiring drivers, I was ecstatic to get my hands on the wheel
for the first time. I always thought of driving as a fun, care-free
experience; however, after driving around I realized how scary and
serious it really was. In order to reduce the amount of deaths that
link to driving, it is important to learn the rules of driving.

A
car is one of the most dangerous uses of transportation. Flying,
taking a bus, and walking are much safer methods of getting around.
With the increasing number of car accidents each day, it is important
to engage in drivers ed. Driving classes, such as drivers
education, teaches young drivers the importance of safe driving. In
the class, students might see video clip skits of car accidents and
be able to talk about how the accident could have been prevented. Not
only can driving classes reduce the amount of deaths, on the road
actions can prevent deaths as well. Actions such as buckling your
seatbelt, turning off your phone, and keeping music at a low volume
can greatly affect your driving.

While
driving, I have seen multiple people driving while under the
influence. Not only is this not smart, it is not safe. When people
drive under the influence they are putting themselves and other
drivers at risk. Your irresponsible actions can harm others, even
though they didn’t do anything wrong. You have two choices when
you’re driving. You can be smart and defensive or you can be
irresponsible and possibly be the cause of a death. It all starts
with your mindset and actions.
