Just Another Night

It was a brisk
summer evening and my dysfunctional family and I decided to go to a
long time family friend’s house we had taken the same bumpy road we
always do. The reddish sun barely set over the grayscale apartment
complexes and private houses. Driving her outdated car at a moderate
pace we passed my old school that I drew up in. The smell from skunks
because we live so close to the cemetery it is a normal smell, and
then we slightly close the windows to mask the impenetrable stench.
We drove in the same direction since turning out of the driveway then
we pulled into the block and I finally smelt the Sauvignon Blanc
masked by cheap mentos. Before I knew what was happening my whole
being was jerked forward, and I felt water cascade down my pale skin
faster than the accident happened.

That accident would
not have happened if I had better education on the rules of the road.
Drivers ed holds the utmost importance in reducing the number
of risks while driving. When entering a vehicle a person is not just
responsible for themselves even if they are alone in the car; all of
their actions are weighed upon every other individual on the road.
Without education there would be no need for a license then accidents
would be a regular thing. Accidents that include distractions or
intoxication are not tolerated by society due to education. This
education also applies to people not even driving, but are in the
passenger seat knowing when to stop a driver from entering a car when
they should not be driving. If I had taken precautions and understood
how to manage individuals who may be intoxicated then the situation
would have been avoided. Later getting that person help and not
allowing them to get in the car would be a better option.

To be a good
civilian and save lives we all can comply with rules that are set in
place to make driving and roads a safe environment for us all. There
are millions every year that die because they are irresponsible with
the power they have been given to drive. Don’t be one of those
people and understand why you have been entrusted with the power to
operate and participate in one of life’s turning points.
