What
I Can Take From You

Hi,
I am driving, and it’s nice to meet you. I can be a very freeing
and enjoyable thing, but what you may not know is how dangerous I can
be. Once you get comfortable with me and take advantage of me, I can
turn on you quickly. I am not all negative however, and I am here to
tell you what you can do to be a better driver.

When
you are in your drivers ed class in school, I am sure it is the last
thing you want to pay attention to. A bunch of kids, learning about
different road signs and lines on the road is not the most exciting
thing to do. But, when you all get to finally get behind the wheel,
your mind is racing with excitement. You must learn the importance
of learning the rules and laws for driving safely before you can even
think to drive. Passing the permit test does not mean you know
everything, so continue to educate yourself after the test and
continue throughout your life. Drivers ed teaches you about
how to reduce the number of deaths I cause. When your teacher tells
you no phones, quiet music, no distractions, listen to them! Texting
and driving now kills more drivers than drunk driving does. Learning
the laws, and basic commonalities of driving will keep everyone safe
and alive.

To
reduce deaths, every car should have monitors on phone usage, the
speed of the car, and lights on the side mirrors to indicate when a
car is nearby. Also, mandatory classes must be passed as you age in
order to secure the knowledge you learned in high school (a
permit-type test every 5 years). I know you all cannot wait to
drive, but please be careful of what I can do, and drive smart.

Me,
personally speaking as Shelby, have not been in an accident and no
one in my close family has either. We all have apps on our phones to
alert our parents when we use our phone or speed, and these things
keep us in line with safe driving. I feel I am a safe driver
currently because I am still a new driver, and I plan to still be
safe as I get older. I think other people should not speed, go on
their phones, double check mirrors, and not go through red lights to
avoid accidents.
