Bringing the Driver Fatality Rate to Zero
Drivers
education is the most important step in preparing to get licensed.
The more education one receives in a specific area, the more likely
they are to succeed in that area. Therefore, if more people receive a
more meaningful drivers ed, there will be fewer deaths
resulting from crashes. Drivers ed reduces deaths related to
driving as it prepares drivers for all obstacles on the road and
teaches young drivers the valid principle of defensive driving. This
being said, more steps can be taken to reduce deaths related to
driving, such as increased demand for “buckle-up laws”, bigger
consequences for texting while driving, and increased legislation for
“hands free driving laws”. Personally, I am lucky to say that I
have never been in a car accident and I am thankful that I come from
a family of safe drivers who have taught me the importance of
driver’s responsibility. Despite this, there are more steps I can
take to being a safer driver. I can turn off the radio while I drive
to minimize distraction and encourage others to do the same in order
to help them be safer on the road. It is quite a powerful thing to
say that highway fatalities have been decreasing over the years.
However, I believe that by reducing distractions while driving, our
society can get that number close to zero and influence drivers all
across the globe to be safer, more observant, and more considerate
than ever before.
