Driving
is an everyday part of our lives. Wherever you look, you will see
cars; but more importantly than the cars, the people driving them.
While driving is a borderline necessity in this day and age, many
people not only drive uneducated, but dangerously due to a lack of
proper road knowledge. Drivers ed is important to not only
yourself, but to everyone on the road.

Dangerous
driving impacts your passengers as well as yourself and other
drivers. The second you step into a car, you are not only inside a
vehicle, but a weapon as well. Cars have the capability of causing
high damage, life long impairments, and even death. Driving is a
dangerous game, especially when you aren’t driving smart. I’ve
been in a car with people who drive dangerously, speeding and
checking their phone, almost crashing into fellow drivers. It was
terrifying knowing I couldn’t control what he was doing. I was at
his mercy, praying that I would not get hurt. It’s a horrible
feeling when you’re in the car with someone unsafe, so why make
your passengers uncomfortable?

There
are some steps we can take to make the road safer. The biggest thing
we can do is stay off of our phones. Texting and driving causes more
accidents than driving under the influence (which you should also
avoid). Staying aware is the key ingredient to the soup we call
driving; without it, there is no soup, just chicken and noodles.
Texting your friend can wait, it’s not worth someone else’s life.
Another thing we can do is drive the speed limit. Something a lot of
drivers do is try to predict what you’re going to do. If you stay
the speed limit, they can predict you and act safer around you. If
you’re speeding, other drivers will have a rough time sharing the
road with you, seeing as how you’re already going too fast for the
designated road. The easiest step, however, of all of these is wear
your seatbelt. They aren’t there as a recommendation or an
annoyance, they’re there just in case you do get hit, in order to
keep you from becoming a pancake on the sidewalk. Without a seatbelt,
even braking (especially at high speeds) becomes a danger to you.
These few simple steps can greatly reduce the risk of the road,
helping you, your passengers, and your fellow drivers stay safe on
the road.

While
these things seem like common knowledge, they (for some outstanding
reason) aren’t. People will be playing fortnite on their phones
while driving down the freeway, go 60 in a 45, and not be wearing
their seatbelt the whole time. But, if we turn our phones off, pay
attention to the world around us, buckle up, and follow the speed
limit, your car becomes less of a weapon and more of a vehicle. With
all this said, it’s best to keep in mind that people don’t die
from watching the road.
