have become an essential part of most people’s lives. They are used
for a myriad of reasons, whether it be transportation to school,
jobs, extracurriculars, and more. Overall, vehicles are a very useful
tool. However, driving is extremely hazardous for a plethora of
reasons, including accidents involving intoxication, influence of
drugs, emotional instability, misunderstanding of the laws, and much
more. When one operates a motor vehicle, they are not only
jeopardizing their own life, but the life of everyone in their
vicinity as well. A tactic to ensure that nobody will suffer the
consequences of unsafe driving is to comprehend the significance of
being a safe and knowledgeable driver. Drivers ed allows
students to learn the essential driving skills, laws, and emotional
management needed to safely and effectively operate a motor vehicle.
While
driving, it is prevalent for one to fall prey to potentially
dangerous habits, often unbeknownst upon themselves. Examples of
destructive behaviors include any factor that inhibits visual acuity
or hearing ability, such as excessively loud music or distracting
passengers. Recently, around twenty-six percent of vehicular
accidents directly related to texting while driving. New laws have
been made relating to cell phone use while driving to remedy this
issue. However, how is one to learn these new laws? That is where
being an educated driver comes in. Drivers ed allows the
opportunity for students to comprehend the necessity of following the
law entirely. Online Drivers ed program Safeway Driving School
states that: “Although it may not seem important to strictly obey
everyday laws, it is crucial to do so. Traffic laws are promulgated
for the safety of everyone. They are based on carefully researched
information and statistics.” Laws are not created erratically. They
are significantly based on meticulous research and statistics.
Teenage drivers, around the age range of fifteen to nineteen have
highly elevated accident and conviction rates; thus, posing them to
be at a much higher risk for injuring both themselves and others.
Drivers ed programs allow students to fully understand the
steps that they can take to be a better driver. They emphasize that
driving is a privilege, not a right guaranteed by the state. When one
decides to participate in the operation of motor vehicles, they are
held accountable for their actions behind the wheel. Understanding
this responsibility is the first step in ensuring the safety of
drivers. The second step is practice. After acquiring a permit,
potential drivers must practice fifty hours of driving within six
months. Then drivers are put through testing to ensure that they have
the ability to drive effectively. Through practice, potential drivers
are able to understand how it feels to drive in everyday situations
fully, and it allows them to understand what it takes to operate a
motor vehicle thoroughly. All in all, being a safe and educated
driver is essential to guaranteeing the safety of everyone involved.
