“Black
Volvo” A Poem

The delicious smell
of a new car

So excited to drive
where I please

I could do anything
and travel far

Black Volvo, it was
Love at first sight

New driver, not so
sure of myself

Driving down the
road looking everywhere I go

On my way to Walmart
to show off my skills

Maybe I should stop
into Five Below?

With my sister by my
side

Browsing the isles

Thinking of what I
could buy for my ride

Out the door and
ready to get back on the road

Tricky parking spot
but I can manage

Ready to pull out

Before I knew it I
had caused some damage

Unsure of what to do

Scared and Afraid

Confused about what
just happened

Lady was in a fit of
rage

What did I get
myself into?

I was not prepared

I was not ready

I was not
comfortable

I was scarred

What if it was
worse?

Something worse
could have happened

I felt like I had a
curse

What if I had an
accident on the road?

I was licensed but
not prepared

My confidence was
stricken down

I was just plain
scared

What do I do?

But I learned

I learned from my
mistakes

I was ready to act
on what I earned

I grew

I am grateful for
what happened

Some people are not
as lucky as I am

This was not a case
of negligence or distraction

Just a teenager who
made a mistake
