How
to prevent ourselves from driving to our own death
Many
people nowadays drive themselves into their own death. They expect
the unexpected while driving because they are unconscious. The
importance of driving safely is a topic that is not well aware to the
public but it should be. Many lives have been taken when a smartphone
has been used more frequently in the driver’s seat. We need to take a
step forward by bringing awareness to drivers ed and educating
them in how to drive safely.
In
order to make a safer environment for everybody, we should make the
minimum age to receive a driver’s permit higher. A driver should be
at least be 19+ in order to receive a permit because at 17, teenagers
are still immature and stuck in the cloud of the drugs. Many people
abuse their system with drugs and take wrong decisions when driving
while being poisoned. Another step we can take is involve a smart
drive app on our phone. For instance, when we are driving, this app
can lock your phone until it senses that it stop driving and it could
only receive calls while driving. A recent study shows that people
who cause the most car accidents are usually teenagers between the
ages of 17-21. Many of us teens are engulfed by the idea of using
social media on a daily basis that many of us have gotten nomofobia.
What nomofobia does, is that it makes you want to hold onto your
phone at all times. By reducing the usage of cell phones, we can
create a safer environment for every driver and save many lives.
A
time I saw my closest friend drive irresponsible was when we went to
the homecoming dance last year. He was using his phone to text his
girlfriend while driving to my highschool. That night I never knew
that texting a loved one can cause so much broken love to another
person. After coming out of the dance, we went to go eat and my
friend was stupid enough that he went to go drink with some other
friends. By the time we were heading home, he was so intoxicated that
the car went swerving. Luckily, nothing happened to me while heading
to my house but after he went home by himself. By closing the door to
go home, I was opening the gate for my friend to heaven. I went back
and told him to leave his car here and go home in uber because he was
too intoxicated. He refused at first, but then copperated and next
morning he got scolded by his parents because they found him
intoxicated. The lesson I learned was that us teens are too much
driven by the desire to have a fun night but don’t realize the
consequences we are doing to ourselves.
A
step I can take to be a better driver is that I can put my phone away
for a while and if I do really need to use it, I could pull over to a
street and use it there. No matter the hurry, no matter if I’m late,
I’d rather give up some of my time so I won’t be doing time in
prison. I can help others be safer on the road by making them put
their phone away and I will be texting for them if they really need
to. While they concentrate on the road, I will be keeping his phone
safe and our lives as well. Many people need to realize that the time
to drive safely is now! Not tomorrow, or the next day because we
never know when we will be driving our own selves to the gates of
heaven.
