Drivers ed Initiative 2019
– In the Driver’s Seat

As
the number of deaths which result from driving undergoes continuous
growth in the United States, the need for enhanced driving education
is evident. In this vein, some experts suggest that a more thorough
drivers ed constitutes one of the most efficient tools for
avoiding more deaths in the United States. This essay will review the
current landscape of drivers ed, relate it to the available
figures of fatalities on the roads, and will present some viable
solutions for enforcing the measures to reduce more crashes.

It
is a recognized fact that 34,000 Americans pass away annually in the
aftermath of car accidents and driving. Such a high figure raises the
problem of the quality of drivers ed in the United States.
Any driver that sits in the driver’s seat undergoes a driver
education. Compared to the European Union countries, the level of
education is somewhat insufficient as the rates of drivers who obtain
their licenses annually. Thus, the importance of drivers ed
constitutes a defining feature of the overall preventive measures in
addressing the problem of car accidents in the United States. All
states should consider drivers ed an essential way of
addressing the issue at all levels.

Different
approaches define steps for reducing the number of deaths related to
driving. First and foremost, the legislative framework should be
strengthened, and punishments for the violations of driving become
more severe. Political elites across the states should actively
consider the prospect of such a measure as it will help to rethink
behavioral patterns among drivers.

Beyond
that, the approach of active learning about driver’s behavior
should be enforced too. For instance, one can introduce specialized
courses for young and somewhat less confident drivers to make them
more aware of tendencies on the reads. Such an education measure
should be offered in regular schools and driving schools. When
teaching about different techniques, specialists should focus on
particularly sensitive driving cases. For instance, educational
courses should review the mastery of traffic situations and help
young drivers manage the driving process in different settings of
driving conditions. Such a course would help them understand what
circumstances should they expect when entering the roads. In addition
to that, the educational course should offer more in-depth knowledge
about traffic rules and hazard perception. Most importantly, young
and less experienced drivers who obtained their driving license would
better understand how to interact with other road users.

What’s
more, the current education landscape somewhat lacks awareness of the
vehicle maneuvering in the curriculum as one of the suggested steps
for improving drivers’ education, such fundamental aspect of
driving should be certainly incorporated into the driver’s
curriculum. It would reinforce the knowledge of fundamental maneuvers
which would then her the driver be better equipped to safe driver’s
processes. Hence, specific courses should be introduced to the
drivers’ curricula, which target drivers’ behavior and prepare
them for potentially hazardous instances on the roads.

Until
now, I have not had any experience of being in a car accident.
Nevertheless, I have developed a habit of fastening my seatbelt not
only in the United States but in other countries which do not have
such a rule for safety reasons. Most of my family members are strong
proponents of safe driving and take their driving skills seriously
into account. Fastening seatbelts and not exceeding speed limits is
the first step I can undertake to ensure safe driving. When being a
passenger, I can also monitor whether the drivers approach the
driving process responsively, too. Paying attention to my driver’s
education would also constitute an integral step for ensuring safety.
