Fortunately for me,
I have never been in a car accident. That doesn’t mean I haven’t
witnessed one. I was about nine years old in the fourth grade. We
were coming home from a grocery store that was down the street. I
remember I was looking down at my tablet when I heard the deafning
screech of a car’s tires. I look at the last minute to see a car
T-boning a car that ran a red light, causing the car to spiral out of
control. My mother stomped on the brakes which knocked me out of the
haze I was in. I see the car that was hit with a completely crushed
side. Witnessing this accident produced a fear of driving that I
wouldn’t realize until I was the age to start driving.
Witnessing this
accident and the realization that I was terrified to be in an
accident. Made me pay attention more in drivers ed class. It hadn’t
dawned on me until I was put behind the wheel that I could easily
cause someone’s death. After this I started to think, if Drivers Ed
is a class that is mandatory to driving, why hasn’t anybody gotten
the memo to not have any distractions to driving? Was it because they
didn’t enforce it because my instructor made sure we knew about the
distractions? Realizing this I felt Drivers ed is more
important than everybody’s making it out to be. It is important that
EVERYONE knows how to prevent accidents and know the laws. Especially
with car accidents being a leading cause of death in the U.S.
In order to enforce
these laws and rules on to drivers, I believe there should be a test
every once in a while to make sure that these drivers are abiding by
the law and know how to prevent accidents. That way people are more
cautious and the accidents would cease. Of course I would be taking
these tests to sustain the knowledge and take the pressure off my
shoulders of causing peoples death.
