Safe
Driving 101

  • What
is the importance of drivers ed in reducing the number deaths
    as a result of driving?

I
have had my driver’s license for almost a year now however I feel
like my time behind the wheel is a never-ending learning experience.
I took drivers ed through my high school, Lane Tech, which
was a great start as it relates to learning the rules of the road
however my time behind the wheel with an adult was the most
beneficial to me because I do not believe that everything can be
learned in the classroom, on the driving test course or in an empty
parking lot. I have to admit, however, that education is the key to
reducing auto accidents death as you are taught to be a proactive and
safe driver.

  • What
steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to
    driving?

When
I received my license, my parents implemented three rules that I had
to follow in order to be able to drive their car. In review of these
rules, I think that they these rules could also save lives while on
the road.

Rule
#1 – Do not talk on the phone or text.

Rule
#2 – No more than two people in the car.

Rule
#3 – Stay alert and follow the rules of the road.

  • Have
you ever had an experience of being in car accident or have seen
    your friends or family

members
driving irresponsibly?

Thankfully,
no. My parents have gone over what to do in case of an accident
however I have not been in such a situation.

  • What
steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help
others become safer on the road?

I
have a younger sister who will be driving soon so, when she’s in
the car, I set a good example for her as I’d like for her to be
just as safe. Also, when I head off to college, I hope to be able to
set a good examples for my friends and even take on the designated
driver role.
