Drivers ed

Drivers ed is a foremost need in America. The number of
preventable deaths from driving is unacceptable and change must
occur. Drivers new, and experienced, must know basic driving safety,
and the dangers associated with certain actions. A driving education
course is the easiest way to get all drivers to understand these
basic facts. To carry out this education, every high school in the
country should offer a drivers ed course to help students, our newest
drivers. Furthermore, every 15 years a licensed driver must retake
the course. These courses will go over driving rules, tips for
driving in weather conditions, and ways to protect yourself and
others while driving. This way all drivers on the road will have the
same education on these components as when they first got their
licenses. Education is the most important way to reduce the number of
avoidable driving deaths. While education is important, there are
many other factors to help reduce driving deaths. First and most
paramont is texting and driving. In recent years, the “It Can Wait”
movement has regressed. There have not been as many ads, political
figures have strayed away, and the public is starting to forget the
movement. With the increasing prevalence of mobile phones, more laws
must be implemented to help combat this issue. There should not be a
3 strikes and you’re out penalty. Driver’s must lose their licenses
for a 6 month period, and take remedial courses, after a first or
second offense. Higher repercussions yield decrease usage. This goes
the same for DUI and DWI. Driver safety is a very sensitive subject
for myself. I’ve had multiple family members in car accidents. If
an issue hits home, you strive to see change happen. When I was
younger, maybe 4 or 5, my father was in a very serious car accident
during a winter storm. He was out of work for a few weeks and our
family struggled. This is why I believe drivers must be reeducated in
weather conditions driving. Many people forget the tips they
originally learned. Likewise, my cousin was left disabled after a
motorcycle accident. His life has been shaped forever after careless
driving, which could have been totally preventable. Drivers, and
cyclists, must be aware of each other at all times, and know how to
handle sharing the road. To be a better driver, I can do a weekly
research session on driving rules, tips, and cars in general to gain
a better understanding on the topic. I can implement this to my
homework routine to help improve my skills. If all drivers had to do
this, say bi-weekly, and log it to the DMV, the roads would be much
safer for everyone. Driving is a luxury, it is not something to take
advantage of. Drivers must be aware, attentive, and cautious at all
times because precious lives are at stake. I hope that education can
be a key component to help make our roads safer. Thank You.
