There are about 225
million drivers in the United States and nearly 1.25 million people
die in road crashes each year. That is a very large number that needs
to be reduced, and there are many ways to go about it. One way is to
enhance artificial intelligence (A.I.). Cell phone use while driving
leads to 1.6 million car accidents per year. The electronics need to
be made to turn off completely once the vehicle is moving. Humans
will not choose to turn off their phones so the phones should make
the choice for them. Another way is to mandate a drivers ed
course for all drivers.

There are many
other ways to try and reduce the number of car accidents and steps to
take to make yourself and others safer on the road. For example, make
sure to keep your eyes on the road while driving, it may seem simple,
however drivers can be easily distracted while on the road. Another
step to take is to never drink and drive, no matter how little you
think you’ve had to drink. There is no reason for imparied or
drowsy driving anymore, with all the services like Uber and Lyft that
have become so prevalent. Also, drivers should be sure to follow the
rules of the road and follow speed limits. The rules and limits are
set to ensure all drivers and pedestrian safety, they are made for a
reason.

I have never had
the experience of being in a car accident, however, my father is a
New York State Trooper and he inspects commercial motor vehicles. He
is often called to accidents involving tractor trailers. I have heard
many stories and seen many pictures of the accidents that have
affected my view on driving and made me a safer driver. I can recall
one story in particular, a middle aged man was in a small sedan, and
he was texting and driving. This man was obviously not paying
attention to the road, so his car drifted into the next lane, where
there was a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer driver noticed this
and tried to swerve out of the way, but he lost control and rolled
over and crushed the sedan with the man inside it. Somehow, both
drivers were fine, but not everyone is that lucky.

Steps that I have
taken to become a safer drivers are: my phone is on silent and out of
reach when I am driving, I obey the speed limit and all traffic laws,
and I ensure the drivers that I am driving with are as safe as me. It
is very important for drivers to be cautious and give all their
attention to the road while driving. There are many ways drivers can
make the roads safer for everyone.
