Driving
in Dallas is a risk in itself. We have thousands of drivers on the
road daily winding through the maze of highways and tollways. Dallas
has also become more pedestrian friendly with many on the streets.
Everyone needs to be alert and know the laws regarding pedestrians as
well.

I
was in a car accident earlier this year, deciding to run that “yellow
light” and clearly not making it. The light turned red and the
other driver proceeded when his light turned green. This was a
confusing intersection where double lights directed around the
transit trains. My car hit another car and the drivers car flipped
on its side. This was clearly my fault. I thought I knew everything
and believed I was a safe driver. When you cause an accident it
chills you to the bone because you could have taken a life. I would
never recover from that. Thankfully everyone did walk away with just
scraps and bruises.

I
did research the deaths in Dallas for 2018 alone… the numbers are
staggering. Quoted from Dallas PD, in 2018, there were 540,561 motor
vehicle crashes on Texas roadways. Of those, 18%, were caused by
distracted driving (driver distraction, inattention or cell phone
use). The 95,572 distracted driving crashes resulted in 394 deaths
and 2,340 serious injuries.

Negligent
driving can be driving while intoxicated/under the influence of
drugs, and distracted driving from cell phone use. Stop at a traffic
lights, stop at a stop signs, yield the right of way at an
intersection, obey the speed limit, and use your turn signal when
appropriate.

Also
make sure your car is maintenanced correctly, checking air pressure
in your tires is a must. Having a blow-out on the highway is
dangerous and can hurt others leaving tire remnants on the highway.

Make
Dallas a safe City to drive in. Educate yourself, watch your speed
and be respectful of all.
