People
all over the world get in an accident every day where both parties
thought they were right. Even when neither of them are right. This is
because everyone learns different things when they go to drivers ed.
Things change year to year nevermind decade to decade, we have people
that drive on the road today that learned how to drive in the 60s and
never got updated from that point which is scary to think about. Take
traffic circles for example, they were not anywhere in the 60s, 70s
or 80s but today they’re getting implemented a lot more and the
people that don’t know how to use them can get in serious
accidents. When someone is in the inside lane and trying to go
straight and another person is in the outside lane and trying to go
left, disaster can strike and the ones that have been put in, in my
neighborhood have produced a lot more accidents than before because
people don’t know how they work. Another major problem with the
road on top of people not knowing the rules is people not paying
attention which wasn’t a major problem. Nobody was trying to read a
book while driving but now people text and talk and snapchat while
driving and it’s hurting and killing people all over the world.
This is a major crisis that has really just become a huge problem
over the last 10 years with teens being the major abuser of their
cell phone which is leading to many problems. These young drivers are
already at a disadvantage because they don’t have the experience
that others do on the road and that problem multiplies when they
don’t pay attention to the road. But both of these issues are very
important but don’t compare to the worst thing on the road. This is
drunk driving. Over 10,000 people every year die from drunk driving
and drunk drivers in America. Drinking heavily impairs people’s
thought process, vision, hearing, motor skills and more. This can
also make people tired and almost fall asleep at the wheel, which is
a bad thing by itself. Even getting “buzzed” can impair people’s
senses and force them to make bad decisions behind the wheel. For all
these reasons people are dying on the roads everyday, this is a major
epidemic and it will never truly go away anytime soon, sometimes none
of these factors are present in fatal crashes but to help compress
this systemic issue we can inform people of the dangers that happen
and how to avoid them. Showing older people the new rules that have
been put into place so that they can drive safely. Also informing
people about their stopping time when on their phone, and
implementing a fine for texting while driving and enforce it more
seriously in areas that already have a fine. And for drunk driving,
make sure bars have taxis near them to take people home and not allow
them to drive home, also for multiple time offenders keep instituting
a breathalyzer test before they can drive. Fatalities while driving
aren’t going to come to an end anytime soon but being able to slow
down these major road problems can lead to a safer and better world.
