The Highways to Hell

Throughout the United States, 37,000 people die in road crashes every
year. An additional 2.35 million people are injured and disabled in
road accidents every year. People are losing their lives entering the
road thinking they are going to go back home safely with their
families. A lot of the time, car accidents are unintentional and
occur when the driver is not paying attention to their surroundings
or is distracted by numerous things occupying their attention.
Sometimes, accidents occur when the driver is not following the rules
simply because they choose not to or are in a state of mind where
they think the rules do not apply to them specifically. One of the
first steps to being able to get a license and being allowed to drive
on the highways is having the proper drivers ed. If more people
felt the need to educate themselves on drivers ed, the number
of deaths and injuries caused by road crashes would be reduced
significantly.

Drivers ed allows for the driver to know the rules of the road
and to be aware of their automobile and how to control it in
situations on the highway. The number of deaths with drivers ed
will be reduced significantly because people will actually be aware
of their surroundings and how to properly manage their car. For
instance, if a woman is crossing the street on a crosswalk, cars are
supposed to stop in order to give the pedestrian the right-a-way
because it is a rule enforced in drivers ed. If the driver was
not properly educated, he/she might have drove along the crosswalk
too late or too early and could have severely injured the woman.
Being able to drive safely is all about knowing the rules of the road
and how to properly use them in times of need. The road should be a
place of safety and joy for someone traveling from place to place,
not a highway to hell.

Reducing the number of deaths related to car accidents may not be the
most simplest action to do, but it is definitely possible with the
enforcement of new rules. Usually, drivers take one written test
before they receive their license and for the most part, that test is
all they need to take for the rest of their driving careers. Drivers
should be required to take and pass a written test every six months
to a year so that they will always be updated with the current rules
of the road every year. If the driver does not pass his/her written
test, their license should be suspended until they successfully pass
the test. Changing the way one drives may not be easy, but
influencing their driving skills and the effects they have on other
people is definitely possible.
