Not
too long ago when I was in the 10th
grade my father, brother, and I were in a bad accident on the way to
church. The guy who hit us ran the red light and totaled my dad’s
car almost killing us. The man t-boned us by flying pass a red light,
while we were turning across the intersection while our light was
green. This situation could be easily avoided with basic driver
education, not running a red light. This experience has had an impact
on me since it happened, and I’m still hesitant till this day to
drive car because of unsafe drivers.
Because
of the accident I have experienced I am really focused on getting a
good education on driving. Instead of trying to finish my online
drivers ed course fast and not retaining knowledge, I am taking the
time to actually read the information and not continuing until I
understand it. When practicing on the road I make sure I am fully
aware of my surroundings and listening to my instructor when he makes
suggestions and comments. I want to become a safe driver not only for
myself but for the people around me. Even though the accident I have
experienced has caused me to be hesitant about getting on the road, I
understand that driving is a big responsibility and will not get on
the road until I and my instructor is confident on my driving ability
even if I have a license or not.
Drivers
education is really important to take and actually understand. When
you are driving you have your life and other peoples lives in your
hands, literally. So many things can go wrong when driving and that
could affect people’s lives permanently. A lot goes on when it
comes to driving and road safety, there are over 500 traffic signs
and many rules of the road to follow. Drivers ed teaches all of that,
it is a thorough curriculum designed to better peoples driving
ability and knowledge of the road to reduce the number of accident
and fatalities that come with driving.
Drunk
driving is one of the major causes in deaths and accidents when it
comes to driving. I feel as though the penalty of drunk driving
should be raised and stricter, this can cause more of an awareness
and reduction of drunk driving. Awareness is also key, we live in a
technological society where most people have social media, social
media should be used more to spread awareness on drunk driving.
Texting and driving are another major cause of death and accidents
when it comes to driving. People are so focused on sending a text
that they tend to veer out of their lane, drive slower, drive faster,
or even stop traffic completely. Most newer cars have feature to were
the text will appear on the screen and the person can not type back
unless they are going a certain miles per hour, there is even a
mobile app that won’t let you use your phone at all when driving.
These innovations are great when it comes to driving even though they
still have their flaws and loopholes. We as people just need to be
more aware of the dangers we can cause when we get behind that wheel
and not be so nonchalant about it.
