Driving
is a short yet impactful word. I would know, but the sad part is that
I am not the only one who would. In drivers ed, I’ve not
only learned how to pass the permit test but the importance of how
one simple mistake can end anyone’s life. The class is also a way
for us to be prepared to handle anyone’s life and be responsible
for it. Most people have learned this, engraved it into their minds.
Unfortunately, 2 out of 10 people do not. Reducing the number of
deaths can be handled by showing how important life is to some
people. In the daily news, instead of brushing off a car accident
like its a daily routine, they could explain it in such grief and
sorrow, it will grab the audience’s attention. They could show the
family’s side of the situation, show how much one mistake can
partake loved ones.
It
was a Saturday and there was at a get-together at my aunt’s house.
Around midnight, everyone slowly started to leave. Me and my cousin
were running in the dark to the car, fighting for the front seat. He
won and I angrily marched to the back seat. As we drove on the
highway, I was on my phone, I looked up at a quick glance and saw a
bright light. As I slowly opened my eyes, our car was upside down on
the side of the road. My cousin and uncle were unconscious, blood
everywhere, I was struggling to open the door lock. A few people had
stopped and helped me and my little cousin out of the car. An
ambulance came and I had woken up in the hospital the next morning.
My whole family was in the waiting room, panicking, and weirdly I
wasn’t. I was just staring off in the distance, trying to put
together what had happened last night. I learned that my uncle and
cousin was in the ICU getting treated. They were in critical
condition and I was taken home. I was still overwhelmed with what had
happened. Everything went by so quickly, I could barely remember what
went on during the accident. I was told that the other driver was
intoxicated and had driven right into us. As time went on, my uncle
and cousin slowly got better and I was relieved, but that night is
and always will be cemented into my mind. In such, every single time
I’m behind the wheel, I am prepared for anything. I have full
vision on the road and the obstacles I overcome.
