I
believe it is very important to be very well educated on the rules of
the road, for the safety of yourself and people who are driving along
side of you. There were over 40,000 traffic related deaths in 2018.
Imagine how much lower that could be if everybody followed the
traffic laws. If you are following the laws and so is everybody else,
then there would be much less deaths that are results of driving. If
you are driving irresponsibly you are not only endangering your life
but also everyone around you.

The
way you drive is very important. I personally have never been in a
car accident but have taken a ride with somebody who was driving
irresponsibly. They were texting while driving and we almost got into
an accident. I think it’s important, especially nowadays with
social media, that we stay off our phones because social media is a
very addictive thing that we can get sucked into very quickly, and
may forget that we are driving.

Being
a better driver is not very hard to do and can be done in very simple
steps. You could begin with using your turn signals, going the speed
limit, following road pavements, not driving under the influence of
drugs or alcohol, or even just staying off your phone. Eliminate all
distractions. Other distractions can include having dogs in the car,
listening to the radio, or chatting with your friends. Another way
you can be a safe driver is leaving earlier to get to your
destination. This prevents road rage due to high traffic or anything
else that may occur on the route to your destination

I
think that people tend to believe that if they have been driving for
a while, the rules don’t apply to them, which is not true. Even if
you are an experienced driver it is still very important to follow
the rules of the roads. Traffic laws are made to keep people safe,
the best thing that you can do for yourself and for others is to
follow them. I believe it is also important to inform other people
about these rules.

Another
way that has been proven to lower death rates is public
transportation. A study shows that places like Boston, which has a
very high amount of public transit, has less traffic deaths, where as
places like Birmington with very little public transit, has high
traffic deaths. More public transits would also encourage many
high-risk drivers like teenagers, senior citizens, and alcoholics to
stay off the roads. A study has shown that
The
U.S.
has
made great strides in reducing traffic deaths per million miles
driven over the last few decades, with advances like air bags and
greater recognition of the dangers of drunk driving.

Overall
it is very important to make sure you are following the traffic laws
and driving responsibly. There are plenty of ways to be a better
driver that are as simple as following the speed limit. Inform your
friends, family, or anybody close to you on the importance of traffic
laws to insure that you and people around you will be safe on the
roads.
