Safe, Spare a Life
How can we prevent tragedy? Drivers ed can save countless
lives. It teaches drivers the rules of the road and how to keep
yourself and others safe while driving. The majority of automobile
accidents are caused by distracted driving or substance abuse;
however, the basics of driving can decide whether a person lives or
dies driving to work in the morning. The more people that know the
proper way to drive, the less likely a family will lose someone
because of an automobile accident.
When you drive on the road, you must drive safely to protect yourself
and others. The most important thing to do is to attend a driver
education class to learn the law and the best way to remain safe
while driving. Learning these basics can prevent a tragedy caused by
a simple mistake. Knowing to use your blinker or when it is safe to
pass on a highway may seem simple enough but can cause tremendous
damage to a person or family. Sadly, knowing how to drive is not the
only thing needed to be a safe driver.
Since most driving accidents are caused by distraction, the first
thing you should do is put away your phone. When you check a text
message or make a phone call you may think you’re only looking away
from the road for a second. The truth is, it only takes a second to
cause a fatal car crash. Next, you should think before you drive. No
matter your age you should never drive under the influence of drugs
or alcohol. Although you may feel fine your reaction time is slower,
and your mind is not in its best condition. Irresponsible drivers
cause thousands or even millions of deaths a year, and almost every
one of these deaths could be prevented.
Fortunately, I have never been involved in a major car accident and
neither have any of my close relatives. My family, however, has
friends who have been influenced by a car wreck. My mom, for example,
is a nurse. She sees so many patients get rushed to the hospital that
do not deserve to be in that predicament. She sees what one small
drink or a short distraction can do to a family. These tragedies are
the hardest for anyone to overcome because they are so easy to
prevent.
Driving accidents cause millions of deaths and injuries a year and
lots of them are so easy to avoid. If anyone thinks they could be an
unsafe driver or have bad driving habits they should try to correct
them as soon as possible. No one wants to cause such heartbreak to a
family or individual. So, remember to learn the rules of the road,
keep your eyes on the road, and think before you drive because it
will all be worth it in the long run. Drive safe so you can spare a
life.
