Since
the times when we first started getting people behind the wheel,
accidents have been far too common, in part due to mistakes,
distractions and bad choices. Today, cars are used in such a
quotidian manner that we often forget they are a weapon, one that
needs to be handled with caution each and every time it is used. That
being said, there are countless number of resources to learn driver
education for anyone to make an excuse.
Driver
education makes the difference in determining what your fate may be
on the road, and as taught, safe driving includes skillful
maneuvering, full attention and a good grasp on the rules of the
road. These provide the ability to react effectively in the case of a
potential fatal accident, and consequently avoid it. Drivers ed
is essential because if you know how to react, you know how to
prevent.
Although each time you drive the
conditions on the road differ and so do the corresponding levels of
risk, there are steps one should always take to prevent
driving-related death. Keeping a safe distance from the car in front
of you helps reduce the likelihood that you’ll rear end them if
someone rear ends you. Obeying the speed limit will give you a
reasonable reaction time. A full stop at a stop sign lets you
carefully survey both sides before crossing an intersection. These
rules are in place for a reason, and you should keep them in mind
each time you drive a car, no matter how short on time you are
running. Last but not least, put down your phone; the three seconds
it takes to send a text is not worth the pain, money or suffering you
may bring to yourself or others in the case that your lack of
attention and delayed reaction time results in an accident.
Fortunately,
I have not had the experience of being involved in any serious car
accidents. However, I have a friend who decided to drive mindlessly,
which resulted in her breaking her spine, having to use a wheelchair
for months including at her high school graduation. It was
heartbreaking to see her go through all of this, and the worst part
was that it could have been completely avoided had she practiced safe
driving.
In all, being a better driver
means making the right choices and practicing safe driving skills
each and every time you operate a vehicle. To be a safe driver, we
should be calm while driving, avoid distractions and stay attentive,
and periodically re-read sources that tell us the rules of the road.
It is of the essence to remind ourselves that each time we drive a
car, our own destiny as well as that of those around us depends on
how soundly we apply the safe driving practices taught by driver
education.
