DRIVER EDUCATION INITIATIVE
To some people,
driving is transportation. To others it’s a contact sport. Being
knowledgeable about driver safety can prevent accidents, save lives,
and reduce the amount of traffic in everyday life for everyone.
Driving education is an essential and allows for drivers to be
equipped with the knowledge needed to avoid and deal with dangerous
situations. Without the experience and knowledge of laws and
regulation there would be chaos on roads. Teens are known to be the
most reckless and careless drivers out there due to their lack of
experience, there are solutions to this such as better school
programs and maybe even stricter monitoring of their driving.
In the United
States alone the amount of car accidents a day is approximately
17,000 equaling up to around six million per year. Throughout high
school students are educated in small amounts on the actual dangers
of driving. There are a vast number of components that make up a good
driver and schools are not teaching them. Overall if driver’s
education was stressed more then teenagers would be better equipped
and qualified to be on the road. Parents and older siblings also have
a great impact of the quality of driver one develops into, usually if
the parents and or older siblings drive irresponsibly then so will
the younger driver. To prevent this everyone should always practice
safe and practical driving techniques no matter the situation.
The number of
deaths per day due to car wrecks is around 1.25 million people. There
are many causes of deaths but the some of the most prominent being
texting and driving, drinking and driving, and driving under the
influence of drugs. Many teenagers that are driving tend to text
constantly, although it is against the law. One accident I have
personally experienced was an accident caused by a drunk driver that
was texting while driving. The driver was in the middle of the road
and in stead of pulling back into their own lane, they stayed right
in the middle of the road which made the vehicle I was in run off the
road, once the other driver realized this they swerved into their
lane and crashed into the guard rail on the side of the road.
Thankfully no one was hurt but everyone in my vehicle was terrified
and the other driver was charged and last I heard was in prison.
Although this may not sound like a major deal, there is known to be a
death caused by a drunk driver once every 55 minutes every day. To
prevent this, breathalyzers could be installed and in order to start
the vehicle, one’s breath must be tested and be under the legal BAC
(blood alcohol concentration) limit.
Some drivers in
today’s society are incapable of comprehending the traffic laws.
Those who drive see this every day. Without the proper knowledge
people tend to drive how they want, regardless of how it might affect
others around them. Many times, I will be at a four-way traffic stop
and in stead of going in the rotation, people just tend to go when
they feel they should, not considering those around them. To prevent
these little mistakes from happening, obtaining a better
understanding of the laws and regulations regarding our roads would
greatly improve the overall flow of traffic.
Some say that
driving is the easiest thing about their day, others say it is the
most stressful. Most people are oblivious to the dangers they face
every day when operating these vehicles. If everyone was educated and
there was greater informant and precautions, then there would be a
significant drop in the number of accidents. Rules are broken all day
long, every single day of the week, if people were more informed and
cautious when driving this would also decrease the amount of
accidents as well as deaths caused by car wrecks. To conclude, the
overall biggest issue that causes car accidents is lack of education,
texting while driving, and driving under the influence of drugs and
or alcohol. All of these listed are reasons and problems that need to
be addressed and dealt with in our country.
