Driving
is a great responsibility to have no matter what age you are at. You
can drive wherever you want in long distances with freedom. Back
then, traveling took a long time to get one place from another, even
if it was considered close. However, with cars being a great
technological innovation, it can also be dangerous due to poor
driving. In 2018, about forty-thousand people died to car accidents.

In
order to reduce the number of deaths when it comes to driving, we
have to indicate why there are deaths happening from car accidents.
There are many reasons such as drinking and driving, texting while
driving, breaking traffic laws like speeding, driving errors, and
more. People who are most vulnerable to these bad habits are
teenagers since they do not have the maturity of how serious driving
is. However, even with cell phones banned while driving, there will
still be accidents since people will try to find other ways to
distract themselves such as eating; driving can be kind of boring for
individuals. One solution to help drivers from being distracted is
raising the speed limit which will raise the attention span of the
driver. Many other obvious solutions is to raise awareness of the
dangers of distracted driving, we always put emphasis on drinking and
driving, but never enough on distracted driving in general. Driver’s
education should be required for all ages before they can get their
driver’s permit, the education system should show examples of how a
driver can be distracted. Some people may think looking at other
objects they are interested in outside may not cause harm or perhaps
eating will not do anything. What drivers do not understand is that
it can increase the risk of getting into an accident; in fact,
distracted driving is deemed to be more dangerous than drinking and
driving now.

I
remember one time, a friend got into a car accident due to her fear
of spiders. She was casually driving after dropping off her sister to
a friend’s house. On the way home, she saw a small spider on her
wheel and she screamed. As she was screaming, she jerked her wheel
and she ran into a pole. Luckily, she was not hurt, but a spider
should not have caused an accident. It was not most likely going to
bite at all. Would you rather sit through the whole ride with the
spider and deal with the spider later or take the chance to die from
a car accident? That is an example of a distracted driver.

There
are measures I can make to become a better driver for myself. First
of all, I should have confidence, but ensure I do not become too
cocky to drive recklessly. Now, for others, they should take driver’s
education and actually listen to important messages that will ensure
they will be safe. Even if they try to drive responsibility,
practicing driving safely helps as well if they are a new driver.
