Sending
a Text or Risking Your Life

Is
it really worth risking your life to send a text message? This is a
common question I ask myself whenever I get in the car. The more I am
driving and am on the road the more I notice this occurring and it is
honestly sad. It is sad to see that this day and age so many people
are wrapped/caught up in their phone and not only are they caught up
in texting, but they are also caught up in all the social media. Now
a day’s people are so worried about there phone and freak out if
they don’t check their phone or miss out on something and this
what’s causing the most problems. In addition to this, studies have
shown that most of the accidents we see today are caused by texting a
driving as supposed to drinking a driving.

The main thing that people try to do when texting and driving is that
they try to cover up why they are doing it in the first place instead
of just owning up to it. For example, people try to say things like I
HAD to get directions or I HAD to text this guy back or he will lose
interest in me, but what people don’t realize is they are never
going to get away with it because at some point they will get caught.
Now not only will they get caught, but they are also risking their
life as well as the other people on the road that they have a
possibility of hitting because they are taking their eyes of the road
to send a text or to do dumb things like check their feed on social
media.

The
other thing that people that text and drive try to do is that they
try to justify why they were texting and driving or on their phone a
general while driving. The most common thing I hear is I will be fine
I am stopped at a red light, but that honestly doesn’t make a bit
of a difference. Also being on your phone at a red light can cause
just as many accidents as when you’re moving. Being stopped at a
red light and on your phone can cause you to misjudge the light and
go to soon to end up either running the red light or rear ending the
person in front of you which either way will cause it to end up being
your fault.

Another
reason why people try to justify or say it’s okay to be on my phone
while driving is when they are making a phone call. Now if you sit
and think about this you may think well it can’t hurt it’s just a
phone call, but in this case you are wrong. You may also think well I
will just hook the phone up to the Bluetooth in my car or put the
call on speaker phone, so I won’t be directly on my phone, but that
doesn’t make it any better. Now after reading all this you may
still be wondering why is being on a phone call dangerous well there
are a few reasons, but there is one reason that is the most obvious
and most important reason. That reason is, is that being on the phone
is a big distraction. Now this is a problem because most people that
are having a phone call with someone while driving are more focused
on the phone call then actually driving which in reality can cause
just as many accidents as texting and driving.

In conclusion, I
would like to leave you readers with one last thought. Would you
rather risk your life to send a text or be on a phone call or get to
your destination safely? You choose how you want to live your life,
but make sure you are making the smarter choices because I you send a
text and get into an accident the text or call you just made could be
the last thing you say to anyone so choose wisely.
