The
deadly dangers of drinking and driving

Teenage
car accidents have become such a big issue in the United States that
they are actually one of the biggest causes of death for teens in
this generation, According to Centers for Disease control and
prevention 2,364 teens died in car accidents from the ages 16 to 19,
and this number was just in the span of one year according to the
article “Statistics on teenage car accidents” about 68,000 teens
have died in car accidents in the last 10 years. But what could be
done to stop these incidents from happening?

The
issue is that teens believe that since they’ve done it before or
seen a friend do something then nothing is bound to happen to them,
but what they don’t notice is that every time you get in a car you
are in charge of your life and the passengers life and that one bad
move can destroy their or your life forever. I believe that the U.S.
should see other countries or states that have lower fatal teen car
crash rates and try to apply those law here for example the zero
tolerance policy that Connecticut has, that states “any driver
under the age of 21, with more than a trace of alcohol (.02% Blood
Alcohol Content BAC or higher) in their system will be subjected to a
3 month license suspension under the new “zero tolerance”
law” according to Connecticut department of transportation, it
could make the teens more afraid to do those types of things if there
is a big punishment involved and might think twice before actually
drinking and driving.

A
few month ago, I suffered from a personal experience with this topic,
his name was Jacob and he was my first boyfriend, he decided to get
in a car with his friend who had been drinking that night and decided
to not wear a seatbelt, so when him and his friend were joking around
going 70 miles in an area that was 20 miles he’s friend lost
control of the steering wheel and the car flipped three time, his
friend survived and spent a night in jail but Jacob died instantly
from falling into the concrete outside of the car when the crash
happened, and from a personal experience the thrill is not worth it I
was not able to drive my car for months after this happened, Jacob’s
family had to sell the house where they lived because of all the
memories, and a 20 year old that had his whole life ahead of him did
not get the chance to live it because of a reckless drive that did
not think of the consequences. Teens should remember to always be
conscious of who is in the car and the decisions they make, always
wear your seatbelt, and don’t let people drive if they are not in
the position to and remember always be safe, driving is a privilege
not a joke.
