Driving
Education is Underrated
Why
is driving education important in society? Most people in the world
travel by car. A car is a great item for transportation, but the
person behind the wheel needs to be educated. Nearly 120,000 people
have died from car accidents between the years of 2016 and 2018. That
number is extremely high and has the potential to be lowered. Many
things can be done to lower that number and help educate others in
driving.
I
believe that every summer, kids who are 15 or 16 should be educated
in a drivers-ed class with a certified instructor. I took this class
when I was 15 and the information about driving was new to me. The
class was not overwhelming. The lessons helped me understand how
being on the road can either help or hurt you. However, the class
should not be the only education a kid should get for driving.
For
example, parents should take on the responsibility to teach their
children how to drive safely. Not only should they help guide them,
they should lead by example. Each parent should put their phone down
when driving and keep their eyes on the road. Many parents believe
that children will just “catch on” to the art of driving. Being
behind the wheel can be a serious task.
Finally,
one of the most important things we can do to help future drivers is
to teach them to watch for their surroundings. Distracted driving is
the leading cause of car accidents. Drivers should not only pay
attention to the road but to other drivers as well. Driving can be a
great thing full of memories for teenagers and adults. I have made
many with my family and friends the two years I have been driving.
Education behind the wheel can not only prevent accidents from
happening but also cause great memories that last forever.
