Every Summer

Every
summer I spent time at central office attending the various workshops
for work. Drivers ed is one of the workshops which I found to
be very important in reducing deaths as a result of driving. It
empowered me with specific information to help me be more aware of
the distractions on the road and how to avoid them in order to arrive
at my destination safely. It taught me to be proactive before getting
in the vehicle and while driving. It also showed me how to be safe on
the roads and avoid being part of a casualty to others who are not
aware and knowledgeable of their actions.

I
learned that various steps can be taken to avoid or reduce accidents,
such as: avoid aggressive driving, avoid distractions from cell phone
usage or loud music, be aware of the road and the surrounding
vehicles before moving, follow the speed limit, keep up with the
vehicle’s maintenance, and get proper sleep, among others.

A
few months ago, I was involved in a minor accident. Although it was a
minor accident, it ended up being costly. The insurance took care of
the other person’s damage, but my monthly premium went up. In this
I learned that being careful when driving not only saves lives, but
it also saves money.

I
recognize that I need to be alert and aware of my surroundings at all
times before I get behind the steering wheel. I turn my phone off or
place it far away where it is not accessible at all. And now,
whenever I get a chance, I share my story with others with the hope
they can learn from my experiences and not have to learn the hard
way, as I did. I also advise them to enroll in a safe drivers class,
as I believe this taught me the foundation of how to be careful while
driving.
