Driver Education Initiative – The Reasons People Die While Driving

Nearly all
automobile accidents are due to human error, whether that be
intentional or unintentional. Drivers ed gives people the
skills and mindset to be a safe driver and pedestrian. The more
educated and safe people driving, the less likely accidents are to
occur. Although most drivers pass the written and behind the wheel
test, it doesn’t mean they will stick to the virtues that were needed
to pass a “test”.

If most causes of
fatal accidents are due to human error, we should train drivers for
every situation that is likely to cause a fatality. With new
technology, we can simulate these situations with virtual reality and
use a stationary car to act as the controller. We should also harshly
punish those who repetitively break laws and violate their
suspensions. We are very lenient on those who drive with a suspended
license which is usually a fine and or revoked license, that doesn’t
mean the person stops driving.

I’ve had a few
friends who have been involved in accidents with a few being fatal.
As wrong as it sounds, I have no sympathy for them since all of them
were the cause of it due to their poor choices. My parents will pass
yellow lights, get too close to a car, not use turn signals, etc. and
have no shame in doing so. I personally want to ride a motorcycle and
seeing how they drive makes me uneasy about getting one.

I know the starting
steps are to learn about safe driving and having the right attitude,
but I also believe that hands-on experience would be best. Helping
others be safer on the road as a driver would mean following all the
directions, using signals, properly entering intersections and the
such, but also making sure they understand my intentions. With an
educated mind and experience behind me, I can be the safer driver.
