I
have learned
When I was about 14 or 15 my
brother in-law died in a car accident. The police said he would have
survived if he had his seat belt on. That means my niece would not t
be without a father and my sister wouldn’t be without a husband to
help raise their daughter. Fear panged me when I realized how driving
could be so dangerous and how easily life could be lost because of
it. I wish I could just convince people how important safe driving
is. Too many times I have been in a car and my friends and family did
not put their seat belt on. To many times I have seen my friends and
family on their phone. This must stop. For this to stop, education
on driving safely must keep going and being taught. I was taught
about driving safely only a few times. Most of the time it was very
watered down. I feel like we need the raw truth of what happens when
people drive unsafely. Show them videos and stories of the
consequences of driving unsafe. Show them the aftermath of how
families feel or of people who almost died. Have them tell their
story to kids and the population in general. There is a huge
problem with people on their phones when driving. We must find new
methods to stop this. Create a discussion group and we all can just
think of every way that we can help fix this problem. Another
thing that needs to be fixed is the glamorization of driving fast. I
know too many people who love to drive fast. It is in music videos
and movies. It is often portrayed as something cool. However it is
something dangerous. You put yourself at risk and others when you
drive super-fast. I have learned how important driving education
is. I am very serious on it now especially since my 19-year-old
sister has started to driving. I want others and her to drive safely.
The pain of losing someone over something that could have been
prevented is excruciating. We must prioritize driving safely. If we
keep teaching kids each year about driving safely, we keep it
refreshed in their minds. I am a senior and schools don’t talk
about driving safely as much as they did when I was in elementary. We
the people also must be a good role model for driving safely. We must
set a good example. We should encourage adults to be good role models
for driving safely for the younger generation. We do what we see at a
young age. I don’t want to see anymore articles about a teen, a
father, a uncle, etc ; losing their life because of driving
recklessly. Think about the ones you love the most. We must teach and
model for everybody on how to be a safe driver. We must take this
seriously. Too many people are losing their lives over something very
preventable. I have learned the importance of driving safely through
experience and especially education. Driving education and driving
safely must keep going and not stop once we graduate or get into high
school.
