Driving
Is a Privilege

Many
people forget that driving is indeed a privilege and not a right.
Yes, parents may make it seem like driving is necessary, but nobody
should drive if they do not know what it means to drive responsibly.
The main thing people forget is that they aren’t just putting
themselves in danger driving reckless they are endangering everyone
else who is also on the road. Any small mistake made on the road can
result in taking someone else life. Therefore taking a driver’s
education course is important, in drivers’ education you are taught
to remember your lack of caring can affect anyone. Each year,
drivers ed gets a new issue that occurs on the road and
they address it so that everyone is aware. If someone doesn’t take
the course, they will be going on the road unaware of the dangers
that are on the road. Everything that is an issue can be avoidable if
you simply take drivers ed course where you learn that driving
tired, driving drunk, speeding, and texting while driving is risking
lives. People mustn’t forget that we are humans and just because
you may feel fine anything could shut down while you are on the road.

How
can we help avoid these issues, you may ask? Start by attending those
courses to gain an understanding. Knowledge is power and actions is
better than words. If you are driving, put your phone on airplane
mode or do not disturb. That couple of seconds you take to look at
your phone could’ve been those seconds you use to make a quick
reaction in order to save yourself and save anyone else around you.
If you are in a car with a friend, and they are using their phone you
can ask them to put their phone down or simply take the phone from
them assuring them you will let them know if they get an important
notification. Sometimes texting isn’t the problem, it might be a
drinking and driving issue. If you go out to a party and you know you
are driving do not drink, you won’t be missing out on anything but
having a bad hangover. As for someone who tagged along with their
friend, if you realize they are drunk or seen them drinking , even if
it’s a little bit, offer to drive and have them sleepover until the
alcohol is out their system or you can take a Uber home. Although
passengers feel as if they can’t do anything about an drivers
action there is always they can do something especially with the
resources that we have now a days.

I
have not been in a car where someone is driving irresponsibly
however, I have lost a friend to driving recklessly. On November
20,2015 Jean was killed in a car accident, running right into a pole
and crashing. Everyone was devastated, the amount of times we have
told Jean to slow down and that everything will remain the same way.
I would’ve never thought Jean would’ve been one of the young
teens to die to driving. He was only 16 and his whole life was gone
before he even got to live. I am highly recommending that we all
remain aware as to what is going on the road, we need to put down the
phone and make the safest decisions.
