Being
a Safe and Responsible Driver

The
importance of drivers ed in reducing the number of death is to
learn the rules, policies and consequences of driving responsibly.
There are rules of driving that we all need to follow as well as
transit signs to keep everyone safe on the road while we are drivers,
passengers or just walking or riding a bicycle on the road. If we all
follow the rules by focusing on the road and being careful about how
we drive, there should not be any deaths cause by vehicles accidents.
The steps that everyone should take while driving is not to get
distracted by cell phone, music, looking at the mirror, combing hair,
shaving or putting make up on. Most important of all is that people
should not drive while intoxicated with any type of substance such as
alcohol or drugs. Everyone needs to learn how to be responsible and
take accountability of their actions. Most accidents occur because
people are not paying attention to the road or are intoxicated which
is an irresponsible behavior. I believe that car accidents cause by
intoxicated people will reduce when vehicles can detect the odor of
substances and lock up so they would not drive. I also believe that
distracted drivers should be reported by other drivers with a photo
so that they get a warning letter from the DMV reminding them that
distractions while driving cause accidents. There should also be a
limit of three warnings per citizen before they are called in to take
a class on how to keep focus on the road and not get distracted. We
are in a society where everyone is looking at what everyone else is
doing so all citizens should also be guarding the roads and
correcting people even though it would become annoying, but this is
the only way people will learn. I have not had an experience where
someone in my family was irresponsibly driving, but I have seen other
people on the road drive badly. While in the car, I have seen a lot
of people driving but looking down at their cell phones texting or
talking on the phone without headsets. These people are always
holding back traffic, driving sideways, or constantly stopping which
is dangerous and annoying. The steps that I would take to be a
better driver is to be focus on the road and surroundings while I
drive. It is easy to get distracted even if someone else is talking
to you so I would do what my parents do, tell everyone in the car,
“please don’t talk while I am driving”. I would also try not to
listen to music or even answer my cell phone while I am driving in
order to avoid getting distracted. It is important that I maintain a
good driving record because this will also help keep the cost of my
car insurance low as I will be consider a responsible driver.
