Insuring
Safety

Driving
safety has become a prodigious issue in today’s society. The
responsibility of life when behind the wheel is crucial and should be
handled with immense caution.

The
increasing amount of deaths caused by driving related incidents is
alarming, but drivers ed should be taken seriously in order
to insure the safety of all people on the road. Drivers ed
allows learners to understand the rules that are associated with
driving as well as how to approach being behind the wheel. Without
drivers ed, people would not receive the skills necessary
for driving because not only do they obtain driving knowledge but
also experience with a valid instructor. Drivers ed
provides a scanning process to either deem someone safe or hazardous
for the roads.

Although
it may seem accidents related to driving may be inevitable, one
simple action that can be accomplished is to avoid distracted
driving. Distracted driving includes all electronic devices, changing
the radio, or even reaching for something in your bag. The simple
steps that can be used to avoid is to start practicing good habits
such as putting phones in your bag and putting those bags or purses
in the trunk of the car. This protects drivers from being tempted to
reach for anything in their bags including their cellular devices.
Another good habit is to avoid adjusting the radio or any mirrors
while driving to insure that both hands are on the wheel at all
times.

Sadly,
it is quite common for my friends, as teenagers, to change the music
on their phones when connected to the car’s Bluetooth or answer
texts and calls they may receive while driving. Not only do they put
their own life at risk, they put my life as well as other drivers’
lives on the line because they become distracted with their phones.
Before, as a freshman, I used to believe that it is okay to glance
away from the road, but after taking drivers ed and
becoming a driver myself, I know that looking away for a split second
can cause harm to many. Because of this, if I see my friends using
their phones while driving, I politely ask them to put it down.

To
become a better driver, there are many actions I can perform to
achieve a higher level of safety. I can put my phone far enough from
me so that I cannot reach it. This will not tempt me to answer my
phone when I get a call or text. I will avoid driving recklessly, and
that includes, but does not limit myself to, following the speed
limit and avoiding abrupt lane changes. By making these simple
changes, I exemplify what a safe driver should look like to my
friends and family. They will notice the caution I demonstrate when
driving, and hopefully, they will do the same to insure the safety of
all lives on the road.
