I
am the Safest Freaking Driver on this Planet.
You’re
probably standing there thinking to yourself: “why the heck are
there so many drivers on this planet?” Well I have an answer for
you. It is simply because there are so many people that drive
offensively rather than defensively. Allow me to explain. People are
constantly in a hurry from point A to point B and it’s not because
they’re running late but it’s because the current generation of
relatively new drivers are all used to the constant pleasure of
receiving instant gratification. We are trained to be impatient on a
daily basis. This can be seen through clicking on a link and having
something pop up on your screen in an instance, or not knowing
something and reaching for your phone to look it up. Everything is
handed to us with ease. This subcounsciously trains the brains of
these new drivers to be impatient and it can clearly be seen out on
the road.
Being
impatient is one thing, but once that impatience is expressed out on
the road, that is when it becomes hazardous and overall an irritating
issue. Impatient driving works like a line of dominos; if one person
does it, it ruins everyone’s day and within moments, everyone
around that one impatient and reckless driver is now imitating their
behavior. Why? To subconsciously prove your street dominance towards
another? Maybe so. So this brings up the question: How can we fight
these impatient and reckless drivers? My answer: Nothing. If someone
cuts you off your initial reaction is to flip a lid and your driving
experience is tainted. To prevent this, train yourself to be patient
with other people. The last thing the road needs is more impatient
drivers.
Implementing
this strategy in my daily car rides played a crucial part in helping
me maintain my state of zen. I figured that if they want to be
impatient and reckless, then so be it. There are police officers
lurking every corner ready to bust these folks and I’ll leave it to
the law rather than getting caught up with the chase.
