According to a
census conducted by Hedges & Company, as of 2019, there are
roughly 284 registered cars in the United States. While this seems
like pointless stats I am just throwing around, it is to put into
perspective the likely chances of you having a car accident. I never
really took it to heart when my mom or family friends told me to
drive safely. I thought of myself as a superior driver to them and
unfortunately, that was my first mistake. I could still see the
airbag deploying, I could still hear the crashing of metal on metal,
and I could still taste the smoke in the air till this day. I didn’t
understand what just had happened, never in a million years did I
think I was going to get in an actual car accident. After I checked
myself and the other driver to make sure there were no injuries, I
looked back at my car and it just astounded me that I was able to
walk away from that with minor injuries. I was still in shock when my
mom and the cops arrived and the only thing on my mind was, “what
if I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt?”

Before being able
to acquire your license, it is required that you have a permit for at
least 6 months and have about 50 hours of driving. This is something
that has benefited drivers for their future. With the help of an
experienced driver, drivers can learn from their mistakes and prevent
future ones. There are steps amateur drivers can take before being
independent drivers. Such as practicing in a parking lot before going
on to the street. listening to your instructor, whether it be family
or a licensed instructor. One thing all new drivers should never do
is never go driving alone until they are ready.

As drivers, we
should always be conscious when we are driving. I know many of you
have heard this before and I will repeat it, don’t text and drive. It
might be texting your mom, “I’m home” or texting a friend
“I’m here.” In that split second your eyes are off the
road, it could mean the difference between life or death. You have
probably heard this before also but I will repeat it, do not drive
intoxicated. These two rules are something we have all heard, either
from family and friends or ads. Yet, these remain the most important
rules of all.
