Road
Dangers

Have you or anyone
you know experienced a car crash or a shaking experience in a car?
It’s a lot more common than you would think. According to the
dmvedu.org website provided in the scholarship, about 34,000 people
die on average each year that passes. That is probably more than
anyone you know would have guessed. This is technically more than the
korean war which is a very scary thing considering what war is. In my
opinion, there are ways to decrease these fatalities.

First of all, I
want to talk about a time where I had a very bad car accident when I
was younger. The car my family and I had the experience in was a
Mercury Grand Marquis, and when it happened it shook all of us to our
core because I believe with all of my sisters and brothers, this was
our first accident. We were parked outside of a playground on the
side of the road and we were not moving. We felt a little bump on the
back of our car and wondered what it was, the next thing we know the
car gets pushed into ours full force by another car and all the back
and side windows shattered. That was the scariest experience I’ve had
by far inside of a vehicle.

Secondly, drivers
education is a big part of American society and works with
inexperienced drivers all over America. Drivers ed helps
reduce the number of deaths by teaching drivers the rules of the
roads and keeping them from breaking these rules. This education
system needs to be improved upon but, there are also other aspects
that could be the cause of the high death count related to car
crashes. Drivers ed mainly helps reduce the death count by
coming up with great rules of the road for the roads of America and
by making these rules I think they are doing a great service, because
without these rules I believe that death count would be much higher.

Some steps that can
be taken to reduce this death count is for more police positioned
along the highway because they can possibly look out for danger signs
before a serious accident happens. Another way this can be handled is
by adding more lanes or possibly a second highway either attached to
the current freeways or going in a different direction. This might
redirect traffic to thin out the heaviness of the traffic itself.
This helps because the fewer cars that have to be feet or even inches
apart from each other than the less car accidents might happen. If
these ideas were implemented or at least tested i am sure there would
be at least a slight difference in traffic and the death count.

My final point
being, the ways I will be able to be a better and safer driver is to
study as much as possible. Studying the rules of the road can lead to
less accidents because those rules are meant to keep people as safe
and as knowledgeable as possible. I believe if more people would
study the fewer accidents would occur from the gain in knowledge in
the law. I would also be a polite driver because I think drivers with
road rage have a tendency of getting physically violent with other
drivers on the road and if I kept myself from getting that way less
violent interactions would occur while driving.

In conclusion, I
believe that although the drivers ed system is amazing,
there are other things we could be looking into. There are more
things that would help America lose less people that maybe could have
been something in lives or perhaps were something in life. There are
many alternatives that could be checked out that would definitely
decrease the death count by car crash in America. From the flow of
traffic to the breaking of laws on the road many things can be the
reason for this high death count, and these are the things that
people would want to look into before deciding what they want to do
and how they want to fix this.
