Driving
is a privilege that should not be taken lightly. People who take this
modern liberty for granted typically end up harming themselves and
others. This is usually caused from lack of seat belt use, speeding,
or physical impairments. The first subject on this list should be the
most taught and stressed. This is because even a drunk or high driver
in a collision will have a better chance of survival by wearing their
seatbelt. According to a site named “Seat Belt Statistics” seat
belts can reduce the chance of fatal injury by forty percent.
Speeding is a cause that can be easily fixed if people were more
aware of their surroundings. I can understand running late and trying
to make it to work on time, but it is better to be safe and risk
being late than it is too risk a collision. Also people do not seem
to understand the loss of friction in wet weather. When it snows or
rains a driver should slow to ten to twenty below the speed limit and
stay off of interstates more. This loss of friction will cause
breaking problems and for a driver to lose control of the vehicle
much more easily. Physical impairments of a driver should be looked
out for on a driver as well. If they have trouble hearing, seeing or
reacting, they should most likely request someone to drive them home.
This goes especially to all those drunk and high people out there.
They will not be able to tell but their senses have dulled and are
having trouble focusing. A slow reaction can mean the difference
between life and death. I personally have been in a roll over
accident due to the driver texting and driving. That is another
problem, especially in today’s society, texting and driving. When a
person is looking down at their phone they are not able to see all
the events that are occurring on the road around them. This can cause
them to drive off the road or into the back of a vehicle in front of
them. I personally always wear my seatbelt when driving. Drinking and
impairment inducing drugs do not appease to me at all as well. I do
not answer my phone most of the time while driving and hardly ever
answer a text while driving. I do my best to spread this knowledge to
my family and friends but it is their choice to take this knowledge
and act upon it.
