In
the Driver’s Seat”

While
being behind the wheel, your personal life, and everyone else’s
life around you is present, so let’s take the time to all be safe
and educated to reduce risks of accidents.

The
importance of drivers ed is the most important aspect of being
able to operate a vehicle. It is important to educate all drivers on
the benefits but also drawbacks of driving. In 2018 an estimated
40,000 people lost their lives in car crashes from many reasons, but
the most being distracted driving. Many people are losing their own
lives and also killing others because their phones, conversations,
music, and other distractions are more important to them then
focusing on the road. The importance of drivers ed is critical
to educate all ages the importance of being a safe driver for your
own and others lives around you.

The
biggest cause to the effect of distracted driving is lack of
education. To reduce the drastic number of 40,000 deaths in 2018 from
car crashes, everyone needs to be willing to contribute and follow
the regulations of driving. I will personally contribute to these
steps and help others. The first step to decrease deaths, is simply
to educate people on all topics of distracted driving. The next step
to decrease deaths, is to reeducate and follow through with drivers
education, to evaluate all citizens obeying the law, and
understanding; a text message can wait but a life can not. The final
step to decrease deaths from distracted driving is to enforce the
laws strictly and follow through with them with high punishment. Once
someone is caught distracted driving I believe they should face high
punishment regardless of their excuse, because a bad habit can make a
routine. Although, there are many strategies and steps one can follow
to reduce the deaths from distracted driving, the most important ones
comes strictly from education.

I
am strictly adamant about driving education and reducing distracted
driving because I lost one of my very good friends, in 2015 when she
along with her boyfriend, and sister died in a car accident when the
driver was distracted by his phone. Losing children, in less than a
minute of a reaction is hard to grasp on. Just thinking of all of the
“what if’s” are sickening because it isn’t reality to bring
back a lost life. This accident was the most devastating accident I
have ever heard about and witnessed as well as others in that town.
Being only 12 at the time, I never understood how someone could ever
be so distracted while driving but has always stuck with me and
forever will. I now understand the dangers of driving irresponsibly
and the effect it has on oneself and especially others. The most
important thing I took away from this accident was; a text can wait
but a life is not replaceable…

Operating
a vehicle opens up a world of freedoms and opportunities but it’s
very important to remember driving education and to pledge to drive
responsibly! Just remember… “it’s not about how good of a
driver you are, it’s about the 5 seconds you take your eyes off the
road.. Don’t risk it!” I hereby pledge to be a safe, and educated
driver.
