Secure Driving
I’d like to start off this
essay on a short introduction of myself. I’m Gabriella Gaitan, a
senior at Pleasanton Highschool in Texas wanting to continue my
education and return to a school in the future as a teacher rather
than a student. Scholarships would give me an opportunity to fulfill
my dream in being the first generation in my family to attend
college, in which I’m thankful to even have a chance to compete.
Driving is always an amazing
and exciting thing for everyone. It’s a type of transportation,
that everyone will be involved in. However, even though driving is
really useful and even fun for new comers, it’s also a very
dangerous aspect in life that one needs to be cautious about. It can
be fun and games until one person gets injured or worse, killed.
Lives are such a sacred thing
anyone can ask for. There are thousands of reasons for death.
Unfortunately, driving has caused around 40,000 lives in 2018
according to National Safety Council. These accidents are not only
caused by people under the influence of alcohol, which is named as
the number one culprit, but also is caused by the distraction and
carelessness of us humans. There’s a variety of reasons to get into
a car accident, but are we able to help the number of deaths?
Is it worth losing lives that
are closest to you? Or how about other’s families? Drink
responsibly, which means don’t drive if you’re intoxicated.
Drinking and driving causes so many lives however, people can’t
stay away from phones for the life of them, which is one of the big
causes of accidents in the United States. Putting your phone down can
avoid so many negative possibilities, and save lives at that matter.
A small act of putting the phone down or drinking without the need to
drive can contribute to reducing the number of accidents.
Accidents are indeed a scary
atmosphere, and can be horrifying when bodies lie lifeless on the
street. Luckily, that wasn’t my case when mom and I got into an
accident. My mom, who was in the driving seat, was in a rush to get
back home. Instead of making sure there were no cars coming from the
other lane that was covered by an eighteen-wheeler, she decided to go
ahead anyway. Since my mom didn’t make sure there wasn’t a car
coming on the side of the big truck, we collided with a little car.
Because we were in a truck, the probability of injuring or even
killing the person who was driving the car was at a higher risk.
Something we could have avoided.
Little things like trying to
rush, drinking and driving, or using our phones can end a life within
a blink of an eye. It’s something people of all ages don’t think
about too often, but it’s a thought that everyone should implant in
their minds while being behind a steering wheel.
