In
the Driver’s Seat
Teens
are more susceptible to having a car crash. Most teens who start
driving lack the experience and the necessary driving skills and
capabilities. Not all states require people to take drivers ed.
Drivers ed has many benefits and should be taken by all before
one can get their license. Drivers ed helps people understand
the little details of driving. For an adult trying to teach a younger
driver it can be difficult. In drivers ed there are experienced
workers that know and understand how to teach them more efficient.
Many parents are too busy to teach their teenagers to drive or they
don’t want to take the time. Drivers ed will allow them to
get more experience behind the wheel. They will have professionals
there to help them throughout the way. Drivers ed will also
get them ready for the test. They will be well prepared on how to do
the necessities of driving and they will feel more confident in
themselves. Teens having an instructor there to support them and
teach them all they need to know will make them better off on the
road.
There
are many ways to decrease the number of deaths involved with driving.
All states need to implement a law that requires everyone who is
getting their license to take drivers ed. Almost all crashes
happen because of distracted driving. One of the main reasons is
cellphones. Parents can download an app on their teenagers’ phone
to see if they are using it why driving. The more teenagers and
adults are held responsible for their actions and are caught
beforehand and fixed can lower vehicle related deaths. Alcohol
(driving under the influence) accounts for 28% of traffic deaths a
year. There are some preventions that the government can take to help
lower the deaths related to alcohol. Each time someone gets a license
they should be checked for alcohol and drug abuse. They can create
more sobriety checkpoints. For people under the age of 21, there
should be a zero-tolerance policy and one should be punished heavily.
I
have been in two car crashes. One time my mom, sister, and I were
stopped at a stop light and we were rear ended. The person was on
their phone and didn’t see the light turned red and hit us going
40mph. The other one was caused from the sun. My family and I were at
the end of our driveway and the sun blocked the other vehicle from
seeing us. My dad broke his neck but in the end we all turned out
fine.
The major thing is
cellphones. If one gets a text or snapchat leave it. Most of the time
whatever it is it can wait. It is better than risking someone’s
life. Every once in a while, I do snapchat why I drive, and I know I
need to work on that. Some of my family members do also. As a family,
we all need to work on it.
