I
remember asking my mom as a kid, how come you only have a stepdad,
where’s your dad? She looked down then told me that her dad had
passed away in a car accident when she was a teenager. When I heard
that it put me into shock. I had never realized at that age that car
accidents could be that bad to the point of taking people from us.
The danger of cars really can impact people and people don’t even
realize how many people it affects and hurts daily. Drivers ed
is one key component of lowering driving deaths. We need to all be
informed on how serious car accidents are and how to prevent them.
One huge problem that people get distracted from their phones. You
can look down at your phone for just a second and something can
happen. People don’t realize how distracting they are when you’re
driving and think it’s fine to do it quickly. But it’s a matter
of seconds before something can happen. To reduce the number of
deaths related to driving we need to put more speed flashers in and
not even allow phones to be turned on in the car. Phones should be
turned off automatically when entered into a car. Along with my
grandfather dying in a car accident, I had two friends get in a
terrible car accident two weeks ago. The car flipped 8 times
resulting in them being hospitalized for over a week. Everyone thinks
that it’s not going to happen to them but it can happen to anyone.
Along with another one of my friends that is so bad with being on her
phone and driving. It has gotten to the point where she has almost
gotten in so many accidents with me in the car that I no longer drive
with her. When I did, there were multiple times where I would have to
take her phone away from her because she wouldn’t get off of it. I
can be a safer driver by making sure to stay off my phone and go the
speed limit. I can help others by informing them how many deaths are
caused by it and remind them to stay off their phones while driving.
No one should lose their life because of driving or cause someone
else to lose theirs. Action needs to be taken to lower the risks and
deaths from this.
