Driver Education Initiative – The Impacts of Driving

When I first started
to learn to drive, I was anxious to drive anywhere that wasn’t
school and back. I believe a lot of that anxiety stemmed from the
fact that when you are on the road, you can only control your own
behavior. There are a lot of variables that you cannot account for.
An increase in drivers ed for everyone can help increase
awareness when on the road. You need to be completely educated on the
dangers not only to yourself, but also to others, in order to fully
be able to drive safely.

To reduce the number
of deaths related to driving, I think it is important to introduce
people to real stories with real impacts. One of the most striking
things I remember from my drivers ed classes was seeing videos of
families who had been gravely affected by car crashes. The mangled
car parts and sounds of sirens are imprinted into my memory. People
need to understand that their actions can affect people with real
lives, as well as themselves. I think in order to reduce the number
of deaths related to driving, there needs to be even more awareness
through public safety announcements, advertisements, and other social
media that could appeal to a younger audience.

I was in a car
accident once and while it wasn’t my fault, nor a bad accident, it
was still a shocking experience. The side of my car was dented, but
thankfully, no one was hurt. However, it was another teenager who hit
my car. This emphasizes how important it is for teenagers to fully
understand how to maneuver a car, as well as the impacts of their
actions when driving.

For me, personally,
I will make it my responsibility to always remain a defensive driver
on the road. I plan to continue to brush up on all my driving skills
and get practice in driving on new roads. I want to help others by
spreading awareness about the number of deaths due to driving and how
it can affect others, not just yourself. I would never want to harm
someone else while driving and I know most other people feel the
same.I think reflecting on the impacts your decisions can have could
be a key part of increasing driving safety.
