The Importance of Drivers ed

On average, thirty-four thousand people die from car incidents in the
United States. Over one million people die globally each year from
such accidents. Drivers ed could help lower these numbers
significantly. It needs to be a mandatory requirement in order to
receive a license. Once, someone turns 18, it is no longer a
requirement to take this. Drivers ed teaches its students hands
on how to control a car and what to do in case something goes wrong.

The instructor makes the students drive in different types of weather
conditions, so the student gets as much practice as possible in all
road conditions. Even though this course is excellent, it needs to be
cheaper so more people can afford it and don’t have to wait until
adulthood. But, once adulthood is reached, the class is no longer a
requirement so most individuals will save their money and not take
it, and solely rely on the education their parents have given them
about driving.

I have been in several car accidents with my parents, but none of
them have been the fault of my mom or dad. The accidents have mainly
been caused by young, distracted drivers or impaired drivers. More
rules and regulations need to be put into place to teach people how
to drive better and properly, but above all – safer. My sister and
her newborn baby were hospitalized after being hit by a man who
rear-ended them because he was paying more attention to his phone
than the stoplight ahead, so I can really press this issue of safety.

The simplest of steps on how to be a better driver are just to pay
attention to the road and don’t be distracted by phones or other
items. But someone could be the safest driver out there and obey
every law, and they could still be in a wreck. It is most important
to be aware of your surroundings. Just because someone is able to
drive well, doesn’t mean the person in the car next to them is.

In conclusion, drivers ed should be mandatory for people at
any age. A good idea may even be to have people take a course to
brush up on laws and their driving skills when they have to renew
their licenses. Drivers ed is a very important course that
is necessary for people to have. It gives people a better sense of
how to properly operate a car and how to control the vehicle in
dangerous situations. An actual driver instructor is a better teacher
than someone’s parents any day.
