Is it worth losing a life?

Driving
is a part of the routine of many in the United States and across the
world. People need it to get to work, school, and for overall
reliable transportation. However- driving can quickly turn into the
reason someone has lost a family member or friend. It is important to
have some sort of professional training on the basics of driving
before going out on the road. People tend to underestimate the
significance of knowing how to drive – especially those who have been
doing so for years – and will turn their noses up at the thought of
referring back to their driving manual. The skill of driving is
needed but should never be taken for granted at the cost of the life
of the driver and others on the road. Receiving an education in
driving and applying that knowledge regularly is key to reducing the
number of deaths associated with driving.

Without the
education of driving provided their would be a lot more accidents
than the ones we are devastated with everyday. The basics of driving
such as wearing a seat belt at all times, using a signal light to
warn other cars, and following other rules of the road are far more
important than what people think it is. These are the key steps to
reducing the amount of deaths related to driving. If this was not
taught while receiving an education in driving a person would find
themselves in car accidents everyday. Without the knowledge of
driving our roads would look like one big bumper car arena. We need
the training and the everyday application of it to have a safer
driving experience every time there is a need to use our vehicles.

On May 19, 2018 my
cousin Nicholas Joyce lost his life in a car accident due to reckless
driving. Although the driver, which is Nicholas’ friend, had the
education and credentials to drive he was not applying that knowledge
on this particular day. My cousin’s death has inspired me to be as
safe as possible every time I get in my car. Putting on my seat belt
before I take off and most importantly following the traffic laws
while I’m on the road are things I do to remain safe. Thinking of him
while i’m driving allows me to do a self checkup. First and foremost
I’ll make sure im going the speed limit and will keep my phone on
do not disturb until I reach my destination. The way I help others
stay safe on the road is by sharing Nicholas’ story to as many
people as possible. While there are thousands of deaths related to
driving everyday, this particular one had a different effect on me:
it’s not worth losing your life.
