Being an attentive and safe
driver in the United States is one of the most important skills to
possess. Thousands of fatalities occur every year on the nation’s
highways. Acquiring safe driver skills can come from taking drivers’
education. The class firstly teachers and decides if students are
proficient in the basics of driving such as turns, merging, and
highway driving. It also requires the students to learn all the rules
of the road. Without this important information and instruction new
drivers would be out on the roads confused and not confident in their
driving abilities. To further reduce the number of deaths to driving
states can impose more seatbelt and distracted driving laws. I know
too well the dangers of distracted driving. Three of my close friends
were driving on country roads late at night and slid off the road.
The driver of the car had been distracted on his phone. The front of
the car was destroyed as they had slammed into a tree. Luckily the
driver and front passenger had their seatbelts on or the outcome may
have fatal. Unfortunately, the person in the back seat did not have
their seatbelt on and had to take a trip to the E.R. She broke two of
her teeth and split her lip and cheek completely through. It was a
scary night and a lesson to all of our friends to not be a distracted
while driving. I personally always make sure that I am not impaired
and I put my phone away when I get behind the wheel. I encourage my
friends to buckle up, to also but their phones away, and to not get
into a car with an impaired driver. Driving in an amenity and
privilege that many people take for granted. It is essential that
every driver remembers that they affect numerous people on the road.
